Community remembers those lost during Holocaust

PRESCOTT VALLEY Â Holocaust survivor Fred Greenwood carries many terrible memories, but none as vivid as the sound of thousands of steel-toed Nazi jackboots marching in formation on the cobblestone pavers of his hometown.
“It was a terrible sound. It’s still in my brain,” the 76-year-old told a rapt and silent crowd Friday morning during a Holocaust Day of Remembrance at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).
When he was 10-years-old, Greenwood was one of 657 Jews in his native Dutch village who under Nazi orders wore an identifying Star of David patch over his heart.
